According to IMDb, a Yasuke film was planned by MGM, and would have focused on the story of the real-life samurai of the same name, but was later cancelled due to the death of its lead actor Chadwick Boseman on August 28, 2020.
The film was supposed to be based on the true story of Yasuke, the African Samurai.
Why It Was Cancelled
- Chadwick Boseman died on August 28, 2020.
- The Chadwick Boseman version was permanently cancelled after his death on August 28, 2020.
- The current version will instead be an anime on Netflix instead, with Atlanta, Get Out, Sorry to Bother You and Knives Out actor LaKeith Stanfield taking over Chadwick's role in the anime, rather than live-action and without the involvement of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
