The War With Grandpa is a 2020 family comedy film based on the novel of the same name by Robert Kimmel Smith. Originally, the film was planned to be distributed by The Weinstein Company and set for a 2018 release.

Plot

The story would have been the same as the 2020 film.

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. The only known reason is that both The Weinstein Company and its division Dimension Films went out of business on July 16, 2018 after Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of sexual assault in 2020 (the same year as the film's release).

Result

  • 101 Studios bought the rights to the film and released it on October 9, 2020, with Brookdale Studios handling the worldwide distribution. When it was finally released, the film was a box office bomb and received mixed to negative reviews from critics and audiences alike.
