In the late 1990s, Warner Brothers planned on making a film adaptation of The Sandman. Roger Avary was originally hired to direct after the success of Pulp Fiction. While making the film, Avary hired screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio (who would later work on Pirates of the Caribbean) to help write the script.
The film would talk about the DC Comics character of the same name.
