The First Day was going to be a Soviet historical drama directed by Andrei Tarkovsky.

Plot

Not much is known about the film except it was set in 18th century Russia.

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. Goskino, the Soviet censor board, discovered the script submitted to them was different from what was actually being filmed, as the script omitted scenes seen as critical to the Soviet Union's atheism.

Result

  • Tarkovsky destroyed the filmed footage in a fit of rage, making release impossible.
