Star Trek: The God Thing
Star Trek: The God Thing (later named In Thy Image for Star Trek: Phase II) is an early version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, written by Gene Roddenberry. It is one of several attempts to bring Star Trek to the big screen, when the original series made a cult following.
Plot
The plot is similar to The Motion Picture, but V'ger would have been seen as a God.
Why It Was Cancelled
- The CEO of Paramount at the time (who is a Catholic) didn't like the idea because of the spiritual connection.
Result
- Several writers were brought in to rewrite the premise to the movie.
Trivia
- Some of the concept for this film would ended up in Star Trek 5.
