Sonic The Hedgehog was a film made by Sony Pictures and was originally scheduled for a 2016 release, but then got pushed to 2018.

Plot

Unknown, but would be the same as the Paramount version.

Why It Was Cancelled

1. The main reason why this movie got cancelled is because Sony considered the film to be a loss on their taxes, which meant that they could get paid compensation for their losses and have no ability to actually make the movie at all. In other words, Sony declared Sonic to be a turnaround.
2. A big fight occurred with Neal H. Moritz and Tom Rothman over Passengers. The latter wanted to slash the budget and telling the former that Passengers didn't sell well, the former threatening the latter on selling Passengers to another studio. After Passengers became a box office flop, another big fight between Neal H. Moritz and Tom Rothman occurred, causing the former to quit Sony Pictures, in favour of Paramount, taking the film rights to Sonic with him.
3. Sony Pictures had financing issues back in 2017.

Result

• Paramount Pictures remade the film and it was originally scheduled to be released on November 10, 2019, but was delayed by February 14, 2020 due to the backlash of Sonic's original design, and the film received better reception thanks to the redesign of Sonic.
• Paramount released a film based on the video game in 2020, which spawned a sequel in 2022, as well as a third installment and a live action Knuckles spin-off series.
