Samurai Jack (film)

From Cancelled Movies Wiki

In November of 2009, Warner Bros. announced that J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot Productions were going to work on a film adaptation of Samurai Jack. However, in June 2012, the film was cancelled after the show's creator announced that the film was cancelled after Abrams left the project to direct Star Trek Into Darkness.

Plot

Unknown.

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. Cartoon Network's first theatrical film, The Powerpuff Girls Movie underperformed at the box office, despite positive reviews from critics and fans, which not only lost money for the studio, it also ended up killing Warner Bros' further chances of future Cartoon Network theatrical movies being made.
  2. Abrams wanted to direct Star Trek Into Darkness.
  3. Samurai Jack was returned for the 5th/final season on Adult Swim's Toonami block.

Result

  • The film was permanently cancelled, and now that Warner Bros. has cancelled any further Cartoon Network theatrical movies following the finacial failure of The Powerpuff Girls Movie, the Samurai Jack movie will likely stay cancelled for eternity, along with that of the planned Adventure Time movie.
  • No other theatrical film adaptation of a Cartoon Network show was made until the release of Teen Titans GO! To the Movies.
