Mutts (20th Century Fox/Blue Sky Studios film)

From Cancelled Movies Wiki

Mutts is a shelved computer animated animated feature based on the comic strip series of the same name launched in 1994 by Patrick McDownell, intended to be distributed by 20th Century Fox and produced by Blue Sky Studios.

In summer 2011, Fox and Blue Sky announced a collaboration with Patrick McDownell to convert his comic strip, Mutts, into a feature length animation.[1] However, by 2021, the project was quietly cancelled despite various scripts and even animation being completed, though only a single animated demo has been released.

Plot

Mostly unknown, though it was a faithful comedy adventure adaptation of the comic featuring a majority of the Mutts ensemble cast according to McDownell when discussing the picture. [2]

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. Disney's buyout of Fox (and subsequently Blue Sky) announced in 2017 and completed in 2019 likely played a major part in cancelling the film.
  2. Blue Sky's demise, enacted in spring 2021, effectively killing any possiblity for the film to be produced despite being announced a decade prior and possibly being nearly completed.

Results

  • For the time being, Mutts remains a comic strip with no plans to adapt it into a cartoon.
