Caddyshack II (original version)
The original version of Caddyshack II was originally going to have Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray return as Ty Webb, Al Czervik, and Carl Spackler. Before production began, it was going to be directed by Back to School director Alan Metter.
The plot is currently unknown. It may have been the same as the current version, but with Al Cvervik taking over Bushwood Country Club instead of Jack Hartounian.
Why It Was Cancelled
- Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray refused to return for the film.
- Alan Metter was fired from production after Rodney Dangerfield backed out of the project and thus Ramis' script was changed.
- After Metter was fired, the direction was given to Allan Arkush.
- In 1988, Warner Brothers released Caddyshack II with an entirely different cast as cardboard cutouts (including Dan Aykroyd as Captain Tom Everett, a character similar to Carl Spackler). The film was panned by critics, audiences and fans alike and bombed hard at the box office. The only original cast member to return was Chevy Chase.
