In June 2014, Deadline reported that there was going to be an American remake of Takashi Miike's novel, Audition. It was confirmed that Mario Kassar would be an executive producer and Richard Gray would be the director. Since then, there have been no updates about the upcoming project.

Like almost every single J Horror American remake, the plot would be the same as the Japanese original, only this time set in the United States. The two main characters of this film were going to be named Sam Davis and Evie Lawrence; who were supposed to represent Shigehuru Aoyama and Asami Yamazaki from the novel.
