Alice in Wonderland (1933)

In the early 1930s, Walt Disney planned on making an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland and was scheduled for a 1933 release.

Plot

The plot would presumably have been a loose adaptation of the book.

Why It Was Cancelled

  1. The project was scrapped in favor of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Results

  • The original version was cancelled.
  • 7 years later, in 1939, Disney originally planned to make the more gruesome version of Alice in Wonderland which would have Alice being tortured throughout the story and later executed by guilotine at the end, which thankfully got rejected for being to dark.
  • In 1951, Disney released a fully animated movie based on the book of the same name.
